Steven Noble Urban Nocturnes is an exhibition of new oil paintings by Toronto artist Stephen Noble. They focus on urban nightscapes -- a new subject for Noble, whose past work mainly featured rural landscapes. Unlike the calm and solitude of this earlier work, we now feel the spirit and bustle of the city. Noble captures this by painting “plein air” studies, which become the source for the finished piece. Stephen Noble discovered oils as a way to connect his love for the outdoors with his love of drawing and painting. His early inspiration came from the Group of Seven, and he has painted many Northern Ontario landscapes, mostly on location. Now it’s Toronto’s turn. Noble graduated from the Classical Animation program at Sheridan College in 2001. He lives in the High Park area of Toronto, dividing his time between working as a commercial artist in the advertising industry and exploring and painting the outdoors.
