Ila Kellerman
Trout on the Dock
The onset of summer commands its own visual vocabulary. Our Ontario landscape provides a palette and iconography that reaffirms afternoons on the dock and summons new memories of spruce, sun, fish and water. In her new series of works, Trout on the Dock, Ila Kellermann celebrates the best of the season. Her petroglyph influences anchor her compositions while layers of paint and incised lines compel us to join in the postcard we call summer.
BIO Ila lived and worked for several years in James Bay with the Cree nations. She then transferred to northern British Columbia with the department of Indian and Northern Affairs, to work on a remote reserve with the Talthan Nation in Iskut. While in B,C., Ila became the youngest school principal in the province at age 25 in Fort St. James. She has also been Coordinator for the James Bay Arts Cooperative, Native Arts Consultant for the Terrace District in B.C., and Artistic Director for the Sears Drama Festival. Ila was born in Toronto and graduated with a BFA and BEd from York University. She now works from a studio in Elmvale Ontario. |
