Matt Tarini Solo exhibition of new oil paintings "Quiet" by Matthew Tarini
Showing: October 5 - 29, 2011 Opening Reception: Thursday October 6, 7-10pm Gallery Hours: Wed to Sat, 12 - 6pm
In his new series of paintings, Toronto artist Matthew Tarini investigates the quiet contemplative moments he finds in both the human face and in his surrounding landscapes. Using a soft, cool palette, Tarini’s subtle use of oils describes a mood of melancholy and mystery in all of his subjects. Quiet will be Matthew Tarini’s second solo show at Gallery 129 Ossington.
Past Exhibitions Matt Tarini In Transit November 4 - 28, 2009 In Transit depicts the technological seclusion of the modern urban person and her/his lack of connection to nature. Being underground surrounded by sterile white tiles, strangers, and artificial light on the subway can be an alienating experience. Tarini records on canvas, the cold way the light from the subway reflects off the walls and floor, the isolation of a woman silhouetted against a wall of white tiles, and the way two people can share such a close space without ever acknowledging one another. This body of work portrays what is often a lonely experience in our contemporary urban environment when we are cut off from each other and the natural world.
